Ritter came to international prominence in 1977 as the star of the long-running hit comedy series Threes Company, for which he earned Emmy, Golden Globe and Peoples Choice Awards. He returned to the weekly format with 1987s Hooperman, receiving Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, along with a Peoples Choice Award. His next television comedy series, Hearts Afire, ran from 1992 through 1995. He has starred in numerous television movies, including Unnatural Causes, which received six Emmy nominations, Stephen Kings It, The Dreamer of Oz, The Only Way Out, Chance of a Lifetime, Gramps, Unforgivable, and A Childs Wish, featuring a special appearance by President Clinton. His stage work includes Love Letters, The Unvarnished Truth, The Glass Menagerie, Forty Carats, Butterflies are Free, As You Like It, The Tempest, and Desire Under the Elms. A native of Los Angeles, Ritter is the younger son of Western film star and country music legend Tex Ritter. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama from the University of Southern California. |
